Deep Monsoon and the Achra Lighthouse

For as long as I remember I have wanted to go into the Konkan in the deep monsoons. To enjoy the rain at it's mightiest. This is a photo clicked from the Achra beach. To reach it I had to wade through kneed deep water for over 100 meters. The beach as desolate. The Earth was alive.
Rains have a magical effect on me. I grew up in Vasai and have memories of days of rain, of walking to school in the rain chasing wood sticks in the water overflows next to the roads. The university was beautiful in the rain and we used to walk and walk and get wet. The Sahyadri treks are simply out of the world in the rains - the mountains shrouded in clouds and the hundreds of waterfalls all around.
So when the opportunity came to visit Kudal and Achra in July, I jumped to it. It was a trip to forever remember. The river at Kudal had flooded and the Goa highway was shut. Half of Achra was under water. The folks at home thought we were nuts to head to this place at this time.
